The ongoing conflict between humans and elephants has become a significant concern in villages near forests, particularly during rice cultivation season. Elephants, driven by a lack of food in the forest, venture out to raid crop fields, resulting in considerable damage to farmers’ crops. This conflict not only leads to financial losses for farmers but also results in injuries and fatalities, with approximately 100 human lives lost annually in India due to these incidents. Traditional methods to repel elephants are often dangerous for both humans and animals.
To address this issue, the Elephant Repeller system has been introduced as a safer, more efficient alternative. This solar-powered device uses light and sound to deter elephants from approaching crop fields, ensuring both human and animal safety while reducing crop damage.
The Elephant Repeller System:
The Elephant Repeller consists of a solar-powered lighting and alarm device, equipped with sensors that detect the presence of elephants. The system is installed at the entrance to the fields, mounted on a pole around 4-5 feet high. When an elephant approaches, the device emits bright light and an alarm sound, both of which are startling and frightening to elephants, causing them to retreat without causing harm. This method provides a non-lethal and effective solution to protecting crops from elephant raids.
